“Despite all of the attention” not much progress has been made in Flint, and the unfiltered water is still unsafe for people to drink, explains one resident of Flint, Mich.
Awareness was high and donations of water were great in the beginning when the issue was at the forefront. But over time, donations have become meager and the economically burdened city continues to struggle with the dangerous issue.
Over $200M has been invested in distributing drinking water to families in Flint. There have been well over 500 suspect contaminating pipelines replaced, but there are close to 30,000 pipelines that still need to be replaced.
Congress has finally approved $170M in aid, but fixing the problem will take years and millions more, city officials say.
