Universities are Struggling to Make Their Websites Accessible to All Students

Universities across the U.S. are struggling to make their websites accessible to all students of different abilities, including those who are deaf, blind and with limited mobility.

Any university that receives federal financial aid from the government is required to make its web content available to all students, and to accommodate students of all backgrounds and abilities.

This task has been relatively hard for all universities to complete do to the ongoing nature of evolving websites and the thousands of pages universities have on their sites, explains one representative of the Americans with Disabilities Act.

As audit teams check on websites for universities, they must check thousands to millions of pages and suggest changes and time frames for universities to meet requirements by federal standards. Universities often end up in this position after complaints, but in turn these improvements have led to several improvements in accessibility.
