UC Leaders Consider Dropping SAT and ACT Scores for Admissions

Leaders of the UC higher education system are considering dropping SAT and ACT scores as a key player in the admissions process for college applicants.

Though scores can be indicative of students’ knowledge, it can also work against those who don’t have access to prep programs that help students perform well on the tests, and can work against those that don’t have money in the first place to afford prep programs.

Family income, parents’ education and race all impact a student’s performance on the tests, according to research, as reported by the LA Times.

UC Regents will make a decision on whether to remove the test scores for the admissions process, but in the meantime, they are in deep discussions as they recognize that their decision will also influence other universities across the country.
