Educators are changing the prevalence of standardized testing in grammar and high schools after examining the drawbacks for students.
Many parents have expressed concern the tests fail to help students learn and particularly place unneeded stress on those who struggle with school.
As a result of the “opt out” movement, in which parents refused to send their children to school on testing days, some education officials decreased the required number of days for annual exams.
“There’s been a lot of effort made to improve the tests and get people more comfortable with them,” said executive director of High Achievement New York Stephen Sigmund.
Education researchers are examining both the advantages and drawbacks of decreased standardized testing.
