Saliva and Blood Tests Being Conducted at Border to Verify Families

New resources have reported that DNA tests of saliva and blood are taking place at the border to verify that children belong to the parents they are being separated from.

Whether immigrants have to consent to the test or not is unknown, but leaders of the nonprofit RAICES which provides legal support for immigrants say that it is likely that if tests are conducted on children, then they are not consenting.

It is unclear for how long the practice has been going on and U.S. and immigration officials have not offered any insights.

“Lengthy interviews” have also been reported, in which officials are asking immigrant parents questions about birthmarks and where their children were born.
