Roy Lichtenstein Foundation Donates 400+ Artworks

The Roy Lichtenstein Foundation announced its plans to donate over 400 paintings from its collection to the Whitney Museum of American Art, making it the biggest donation of works from a single-artist that the museum has ever received.

The move is part of the Foundation’s decision to wind down, ridding itself of its collection through several smaller donations, including the donation of historical documents to the Smithsonian’s Archives of American Art and to other organizations across the globe.

Leaders of the foundation mentioned that it is part of their mission to pass on the art, giving the public an opportunity to take it to another level.

The trend of giving away art holdings has been increasingly popular among foundations.
