Rhode Island became the fourth state in the US to grant free education to students attending community colleges.

According to the agreement, students qualify to receive a free college education if they maintain a GPA of 2.5 and remain enrolled full time.

All students, regardless of income, will be able to participate in the program if they maintain the two qualifications.

State officials voted on a budget proposal that allowed community colleges to be funded $2.8 million for one year.

The state follows New York, Tennessee, and Oregon in providing free community college programs to students.
