According to new studies conducted by Ohio State University, the use of light cigarettes contribute to higher rates of contracting lung cancer.
Researchers found that modern cigarettes containing ventilation holes increase one’s chances in developing adenocarcinoma, a type of lung cancer that is difficult to combat.
While these cigarettes were once thought to be safer for consumers, scientists involved within the study believe the US Food and Drug Administration should consider banning filter ventilation in order combat the prevalence of lung cancer.
However, some scientists argue that removing filters from light cigarettes could cause more harm for smokers.
Overall, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention state that smoking kills nearly half a million Americans per year, despite recent data illustrating the dangers associated with smoking cigarettes.
