Report: Men Failing to Enroll in Colleges

While the rate of female college students continues to grow compared to previous generations, educators and college officials are concerned enrollment rates of male students are drastically decreasing.

According to the US Department of Education, more than 56 percent of students on college campuses will be women during the upcoming fall semester.

Many educators believe boys lose interest in school by the time they reach high school because they often fall behind in courses compared to their female counterparts.

Rather than enrolling in colleges or universities, men have joined trade programs which often leads to lower paying jobs.

“Men need to know perhaps more than women what the payoff is going to be,” explained Jim Shelley, manager of the Men’s Resource Center at Lakeland Community College, of college programs.
