A report from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development states that approximately 567,000 residents in Los Angeles are at risk of falling into homelessness because they are unable to access the government assistance that they are qualified for.

The issue of homelessness across Southern California could be further exacerbated as many of these individuals and families run the risk of losing their homes, said HUD spokesman Ed Cabrera, as reported by KQED.

Help in the form of government assistance is so limited, and while more than 600,000 people are expected to apply for housing vouchers in the next year, only 20,000 applicants will be approved.
