Based on recent findings published by Children’s Health and the University of Texas, one in five children live in poverty within the Dallas area.

Furthermore, about 260,000 children living in Dallas County and five neighboring counties are considered food insecure.

As a result of poverty, about 30,000 third graders in the Dallas area are reading below grade level.

The report also indicated 7,500 cases of child abuse and neglect occurred in North Texas in 2016.

Researchers hope the new findings will shed light on the devastating economic disparity between the wealthy and poor within Dallas.
