Painting Once Stolen by Nazis Retrieved in a New York Museum

A painting once stolen by Nazis was retrieved by the FBI in a New York museum this week.

USA Today reports that the painting’s recovery is part of a greater effort all around the world to find art that was once stolen by Nazis who rose to power.

The painting titled “Winter” by the artist Gari Melchers had belonged to a Jewish family’s collection and was then taken from them, along with the rest of their art collection.

The painting has been removed from the Arkell Museum in Canajoharie and will remain in the possession of the FBI until it can be returned to the rightful owner.
