One-Year Window for Delayed Lawsuits Against Child Abusers Starts This Week

This week marks the first of a year-long window to help victims of child sex abuse launch any delayed lawsuits.

Through the New York Child Victims Act, those who were sexually abused as children can legally take action.

According to CNN, the law “allows any adult survivors of child sexual abuse [to] sue an abuser or a negligent institution, no matter how long ago the abuse took place.”

The law is intended to help victims of sexual abuse come forward and speak up about these situations, which they may have been keeping to themselves for years.
