Spotting Lyme disease is not necessarily easy, and therefore thousands of people who become infected don’t find out until later on. Over the last decade, the number of cases has nearly doubled.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, so many Americans don’t realize that they have Lyme disease that the number of people who are infected is about 10 times higher than the actual number of reported cases.

Lyme disease makes up 80 percent of tick-borne diseases and they are tough to identify because the bacteria can take up to a month to form. If a patient goes to the doctor early on, it wouldn’t necessarily show up in a blood test.
