Earlier this week the U.S. Surgeon General issued a statement warning that the widespread use of electronic cigarettes by youth across the country could lead to an epidemic for generations ahead.
“Now is the time to take action. We need to protect our young people from all tobacco products, including e-cigarettes,” said Surgeon General, Jerome Adams, as reported by NPR.
He discussed the importance of everyone’s role in reducing vaping among teens, including the role of parents, teachers, health care professionals and providers, and local authorities.
Experts said that the use of vapes has been on the rise among youth more quickly than any other substance ever has, posing serious dangers.
Furthermore officials noted that it is alarming that young people are not aware that even electronic cigarettes contain addictive nicotine.
