A saliva test is being tested by scientists to accurately identify concussions within children.

According to a report released by JAMA Pediatrics, researchers found that certain molecules within saliva may be able to identify concussion symptoms within children, teenagers, and young adults.

While children who are diagnosed with concussions often improve within two weeks, one-third of those affected may experience prolonged symptoms.

Concussions particularly impact children and teenagers as they can often develop memory and learning disabilities as a result of head trauma.

Researchers hope the new test will be available for public use within the next few years to combat the surge in sports-related concussions among youth.
