The National Institute of Health (NIH) will invest over $200,000 on transgender studies after a budget increase of $2 billion was recently granted to the institute.

Studies will focus on conducting research on improving health for persons who identify as transgender or nonconforming, and will also study those who have not yet transitioned from one gender to another.

Medical, sociological and psychological causes and consequences will also be important to researchers in the process.

“Society currently lacks a thorough understanding of transgender relationships with partners and family, as well as sexual and reproductive health,” reports the Daily Caller.

The institute announced that it will soon begin accepting applications for potential transgender studies to fund next year.
