Issues that are currently pending in cases at the Supreme Court could lead to major decisions surrounding LGBT rights in America.
These include issues involving the right to protection against discrimination in workplaces. In only 24 states are LGBT protected against workplace discrimination, according to Rolling Stone, and the rest are up for debate. Recently, two cases in which the court ruled in favor of the gay plaintiff (in New York) and another where the judge ruled against him (in Atlanta), have been presented to the Supreme Court for the court to make a decision “once and for all” on whether LGBT individuals are protected in workspaces under Title VII that prohibits discrimination based on sex.
In another case, an important decision could be made in the U.S. regarding discrimination on the basis of religion. In a new case in the Supreme Court, a straight religious couple who owns a bakery is claiming that they should be allowed to discriminate against whomever they want based on their religion. The case of Klein v. Oregon Bureau of Labor Industries will be concluded by the new year, reports Rolling Stone.
There are other cases pending in the Supreme Court that could be determinant of other key LGBT rights, including one on discrimination policies against LGBT serving in the U.S. military that involve President Trump himself.
