A new legislation could drastically minimize funds that help disadvantaged school districts in Illinois.
Education officials are concerned students from low-income communities will face greater obstacles if funds from the state are decreased.
Supporters of the proposed legislation say the new program will allot resources to struggling students and reduce spending among all school districts.
However, critics of the plan are concerned less affluent schools will not receive adequate funds to continue classes.
In a 2016 school rating, Chicago Public Schools received the lowest score of 1 due to insufficient funds.
