The Human Resources Development Institute has worked to support 40 individuals and families who were once homeless, but found out earlier this year that its federal funding would not be renewed for the upcoming year. At least one family is already getting evicted and others are struggling to gather funds to pay for the next rent.

Though the organization has been working to connect families with other agencies that can help them fund their rent, several are still in limbo and in need of more resources.

Leaders say this is a problem that is also indicative of the need for the city to prevent homelessness in the first place, so that individuals and families never have to find themselves in these stressful situations.
