The number of incidents of human feces found on the streets of San Francisco has increased to an all-time high, leading to a growing public health concern.
Between 2011 and 2018, the number of cases grew from 5,500 to more than 28,000, according to data from Public Works.
Though there is a dedicated team in the city focused on removing feces from the streets in particular neighborhoods, the issue is becoming worse due to an increase in homelessness as a result of displacement and gentrification.
With limited public resources, including bathroom and adequate spaces for homeless individuals to tend to their hygiene, the issue is becoming a growing public health concern.
