Scientists studying species within Antarctica have warned the public that global warming is affecting the area more than previously believed.
Rising temperatures have caused certain species of fauna to grow, ultimately decreasing levels of biodiversity in Antarctica.
Researchers warn the trends within the region can impact marine species across the world as levels of manmade greenhouse gases increase.
“The loss of biodiversity is very concerning,” said Gail Ashton, researcher of the British Antarctic Survey and Smithsonian Environmental Research Center.
“This is an indication of what may happen elsewhere with greater warning,” she added.
