The Hamon Charitable Foundation has pledged a $2 million donation to Southern Methodist University in Texas, for its engineering summer program.

The program reaches middle school and high school students from the Young Women’s Preparatory Network and Barack Obama Male Leadership Academy, among other institutions serving underrepresented populations in Texas.

The donation will help support the summer program for over 600 students and more than 50 educators over the next half decade, reports Dallas News.

Previously, the program has been funded by a local state grant, but local leaders say the funds are a toss up every year and therefore the donation will have a positive impact for the program.
