Several nonprofits in Texas are receiving a $2 million grant from the Hogg Foundation for Mental Health to improve student mental health.

The foundation, which is an entity of the University of Texas at Austin, awarded seven organizations with the funds in order to promote academic achievement.

Many teachers and researchers have found that positive mental health can translate in to successful academic achievement for grade school children.

According to a recent study, 2 out of 3 US students have experienced at least one traumatic event by the time they reach their late teens.

“These grantees are pioneering efforts to ensure that students get the emotional support they need to thrive,” said Octavio N. Martinez Jr., executive director of the Hogg Foundation.
