With the opioid epidemic continuing to impact individuals and families across the country, a greater number of foster parents are needed to help the children impacted by the devastating trend.
Officials from the welfare system are advising willing and able adults to become foster parents in order to minimize the impact of the crisis on future generations.
“Certainly, opioids in the past couple years have really made a huge impact on the system,” said Brenda Chapin, Vice President of Program and Administration at The Villages, a nonprofit family services agency.
Children whose parents are addicted to opioids often face behavioral and educational challenges that can last throughout their lives.
“These children need a safe environment to grow,” explained foster parent Sherri Torres.
