In 2011, Texas passed a measure that allows foster parents to carry weapons in their cars, and similarly, Nevada approved a measure to allow foster parents to carry weapons if they are part of enforcement or holders of permits.

Executive Director of the Children’s Rights advocacy rule said that the measures to regulate gun ownership among foster parents was important, along with all the other safety measures, such as background checks that are performed on foster parents and the requirement to have an emergency evacuation plan.

The Director of the National Foster Parents Association says foster parents are allowed to own guns for hunting, but told the New York Times that “personal carry is a whole different thing.”
