Female artists are still experiencing lower pay at auctions, as wealthy men continue to rate female artists’ works at a lower price, according to a new report.

Although it is no surprise that female artists have experienced inequality in terms of how their art is valued monetarily, the new report by the University of Luxembourg highlights the fact that female artists’ works are consistently auctioned at 45 percent less than that of male counterparts.

Furthermore a survey found that artworks by female artists were consistently rated lower on a scale of one to ten when participants knew that the artist was female.

The report indicates that the average transaction price for art works by men is more than $48,000 versus $25,000 for female artists.
