Extreme Weather Dampens Spirits Among U.S. Farmers

All across the country farmers are struggling with extreme weather conditions impacting farmlands, and affecting the growth of crop.

In some areas, such as in Wisconsin, farmers say they have to take boats through soggy lands to reach their fields. While some crops can withstand extreme rain, others cannot, leading farmers to lose business, in addition to already facing hardships with commodity pricing.

“Low prices for milk, soybeans, and now wet weather at harvest, ‘is just another nail in the coffin” for some farms,’” said a local Wisconsin farmer, Bob Roden.

According to a recent survey from Purdue University, more than half of 400 U.S. farmers surveyed about their conditions said that their financial situation had worsened over the last year due to price drops and weather.
