Environmental Policies that Impact Black Lives the Most

The Movement for Black Lives, a coalition of over 50 groups, released an outline of the challenges faced by black communities and possible solutions to overcoming those obstacles through legislation.

A Vision for Black Lives points out distinct policies that need to be changed or implemented in order to ensure progress and wellness for black communities.

Many of the issues that disproportionately affect black people are related to the oil industry and environmental racism – or placement of black neighborhoods in particularly toxic or hazardous locations.

The report recommended divesting in fossil fuels, because they drive climate change that ultimately affects the health of black people the most because they are often located in poor neighborhoods exposed to pollution; they also recommended solutions for black farmers who are most prone to discrimination and accumulate large debts, and face foreclosures frequently.
