Harvard University has faced several challenges in the last years after being accused of discriminating against Asian Americans.
Now, education leaders are suggesting once again that perhaps a lottery system could be the best way to ensure fairness in selecting students. Leaders say that there’s no way to absolutely ensure that some groups are not given weight over others when there are humans behind selecting who gets admitted and who doesn’t, but perhaps a lottery system of random selection from an initial hand-picked pool of students could lead to more diversity.
The Atlantic reports that this isn’t the first time education leaders have suggested a lottery system for acceptance into elite institutions, and charter schools already use a similar system in the U.S.
