Drones could be the next best method for delivering donor organs to recipients in quick, sanitary and safe way.
This week, for the first time ever, an organ was delivered to a donor within five minutes in Baltimore. The kidney was then successfully transplanted into 44 year-old patient from Baltimore.
The process for delivering an organ can take hours and can be especially long if there are unexp delays in air traffic, since most are delivered by plane.
But the drone cut out a significant amount or delivery time which medical experts say is important since faster organ transplants work better.
The drone organ-delivering mechanism was developed by physicians, researchers and aviation and engineering experts from the University of Maryland School of Medicine, the University of Maryland and the Living Legacy Foundation of Maryland, as reported by CNN.
