The “Strong Together” Initiative under the Obama administration may direct a $120 million grant toward diversification in schools. The funds will support socioeconomic and racial integration programs for schools all over America in an effort to work on the issue of educational inequality between races.
Efforts to pursue diversity in the school system have been more successful in the recent years, partially because integrating such programs has been driven by funding – not race.
“Socio-economic integration will lead to racial integration and educational equality,” says Mercedes Banks, assistant professor in the school of education at Howard University.
Diversity in schools has proven to bridge the achievement gap in the past and will hopefully continue to create equal educational opportunities for future generations.
