The 2015 Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) that replaced the No Child Left Behind Act will be reviewed and discussed this week by California’s State Board of Education.
California has about two months remaining before it must submit plans for ESSA to Secretary of Education, Betty DeVos.
The LA Times outlined a number of issues that will be discussed this week, including how the state will identify and monitor the lowest performing schools; how the state will help those schools to improve; and how the state will define and identify “ineffective” teachers.
