The San Francisco Chronicle conducted an analysis on the state of homelessness in California and found that the issue is more pronounced in sparse, rural areas than ever before.

Since 2015, the rate of homelessness in the state has increased by 15 percent, according to its report.

SF Chronicle wrote about the issue, “In rural areas, the increases have come as a shock.”

In the area of El Dorado County, homelessness rose by 122 % and in Butte County, rose by 76%.

The greater issue is there are few spaces to serve as shelter to displaced individuals and families.

Now, California has the highest population of homeless individuals of any state, at approximately 135,139.
